Sleep problems

I’m awaiting surgery which is planned for 9th April and found since being diagnosed with breast cancer I am having difficulty sleeping and having lots of dreams. The GP prescribed an antihistamine which gave me awful nightmares and made me feel drowsy in the day which I’ve now stopped taking. I’d like to hear if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations of what they have found helpful in getting a good nights sleep. Thanks

  • A very warm welcome to the forum 7665 although I'm sorry to hear you've been having trouble sleeping since you found out you have breast cancer.

Many of our members will know what you're going through, so you are not alone, and I'm sure some of them will stop by soon to offer their support and advice.

Macmillan have a very useful article on their website about insomnia and things you can do to help you sleep but you're very welcome to discuss this and anything that is playing on your mind with our team of cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to help.

Your GP may be able to offer you something else that could help with your sleep, so do think about seeing them again to find out what might be available.

I know the next couple of weeks are going to be tough 7665 but we are here for you and sending all our support your way.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks Steph. I’ll definitely look at the information you have suggested
