Colon cancer

I've just been diagnosed with colon cancer. After many scans, tests, biopsies it has been decided I need an operation to remove the cancerous polyp in my colon. I'm waiting for an appointment time for this now. In the meanwhile I feel blank, shocked and terrified of what's going to happen so any help with coping would be welcome. I do have family to talk to and they are good but wondered if there any ways of calming the inevitable stress and lack of sleep.

  • Hi Gilliebean1 I’m in a very similar position to you. I just waiting to see the surgeon to confirm what happens to me next and how long I’ll have to wait. It’s the waiting that’s the worst thing. I’m just trying to do my normal everyday things, but it’s the quiet moments that get to me. I’ve tried mindful colouring etc but not really into that sort of thing. I’ve resorted to games on my phone when I’m really stressed. This is a good place to talk about things and I’m happy to chat whenever you feel the need. Stay strong.

  • Thank you for your reply. I too have started playing games on my phone and am fast becoming an expert at solitaire! I've also discovered a sleep music app that is calming. It's just the waiting that's the worst. Let's hope we both get the treatment we need soon. Stay strong and positive too.

  • Hi Gilliebean1 hope things are going well for you, did you have any indication the polyp could have been cancerous? I had one found today but was discharged with a summary note and didn’t speak to anyone all I’ve been told is 4-6 week wait for results x

  • Hi Gilliebean.

    I'm new to this site.

My dear husband is scheduled for surgery to remove part of his colon this week.

From diagnosis to surgery will be 3 weeks.

He has been very distracted & unable to concentrate on anything since diagnosis. Sometimes confused. It's the shock, I think.
