Terminal news over the phone?

So blood tests were back last week and the cancer has returned. Had a load of scans and expected the results tomorrow. However co-rectal nurses called and said if they would like the results over the phone or we could come in and discuss with the doctor.

I was mentally prepping myself for Friday and thought it best to wait to speak to the doctor so that questions maybe answered. My wife wanted to know then and there. But I was happy to wait a little longer for tomorrow how mentally that had been the plan.
Now its evening my wife is obviously stressed. Am I right in thinking that they would not give a terminal result over the phone? They seemed quite causal about it. "You can come in or we can give over the phone." They knew we knew the cancer had returned because of the blood tests.
I know my brain is trying to find a positive but thought Id ask the question
Thank you
  • Hello Eddieo1,

I am so sorry to hear that the blood tests have flagged that the cancer has returned. I totally understand why you would prefer to wait to speak to the doctor in person so that you can have an opportunity to ask questions. I am not sure how much they would tell you over the phone but sometimes coming in and speaking to the doctor in person will give a more personal touch and create a little less anxiety than talking on the phone. Have you managed to talk to someone since and have you been given any additional details or information?

We're keeping everything crossed for you and hope that you have a little more clarity now on this.

    Best wishes,
