Early stage breast cancer

I’ve just been diagnosed with early stage breast cancer and am waitin for a treatment plan. Any advice would be very appreciated. Thank you

  • So sorry you have been diagnosed.  Have they said how long until a treatment plan. I remember the waiting was much more difficult than starting treatment.  There are some great dedicated breast cancer groups and if they have a Maggie’s at the hospital that is worth visiting as is Breast Cancer Now. Is there anything that woukd be helpful? Just let me know.

  • Hi Jo. I also have been diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. Had op 5 weeks ago, all removed now but I am also awaiting  my treatment plan, I have to await test results from America. I would also appreciate any advice, or tips to help with the waiting which I am finding quite stressful.

  • I have an appointment in 2 weeks to discuss my treatment plan. I’ve been advised it will most likely be surgery and radiotherapy. Have no idea what to expect

  • So sorry Jane. I really focussed on my physical and mental health. Yoga, meditation, walking each day, trying to eat healthily gave me some sense of having some control. I stayed away from google but relied on good sites with information. Try and keep some routine although I know its difficult. Are you waiting for genetic tests?  X

  • Hopefully we can help each other with this forum x

  • That’s good. I’m just coming to end of radiotherapy and its really been ok. Bit tired. But otherwise fine. I had a lumpectomy and that was ok too. Its a shock but you’ll get through it and sounds like early diagnosis x

  • I am pleased for you that your treatment has been manageable, I am worried about lumpectomy recovery time and radiotherapy side effects

  • After lumpectomy I was back at work 10 days later and have worked through radiotherapy.  Tiring bit is going in each day.  But I did rest more when I could particularly at weekends and earlier nights too!

  • Hi both. I had a lumpectomy too, tumour original thought to be 1.6cm was 3.3cm on operation but they took it all out  got clear margins and it hadn't spread to the nodes so classed as a T2 N0 M0.

Yes Rachel im waiting for genetic testing, did you have it, apparently under 25 is no chemo 25-100 chemo, then radiotherapy and then tablets for at least 5 years.

Jo it all seems so daunting from being told you have breast cancer to your op but you'll look back in a few weeks and see how far you have come, its true what they say one step at a time, it is a process and you have to go with the flow, as much as I've felt I wish I could run away and hide I know i can't and then I pick myself up and keep going  as Rachel said I try to walk most days and listen to guided meditations I find they help. I made the mistake of googling early days, it didn't help but once i knew more as Rachel says you can get helpful information.

So glad your nearing end of your Radiotherapy Rachel, Jo deep breaths  you can do this. We will get there together

    Xx

  • all so true. Yes I had genetic tests because I’m adopted and all negative.

pleased you have each other. It makes a huge difference to compare notes. X
