Pre chemo consultation

Hi, just wondered if anyone could tell me how involved the pre chemo consultation is. I have my first treatment Monday 4th March and have been told my pre chemo meeting is on Saturday 2nd March. Apparently this meeting will be a phone cconversation which concerns me a little. My phone reception isn't always great and I sometimes lose connection. I asked if it could be face to face, but was told this was not an option on a Saturday. I have a few questions that I would like to ask and would like my husband to be part on the conversation. Any info about these meetings would be greatly appreciated.

  • At my pre chemo chat they just talked me through what to expect on the day, and the side effects to watch out for, also some advice about diet etc. So, not too involved and most of the info was then given to me in writing as well.

Mine was in person but I think it would have worked OK on the phone.

If you have poor phone reception but OK wifi at home, maybe see if they can do it by Zoom (or WhatsApp, or similar)? Could also then have video possibly which might feel more personal.

Have a pencil and paper handy so you can write stuff down that sounds important. This might help you to focus. You can ask them to pause while you write a note  And consider having someone else with you so they can pick up anything you miss.

Hope that helps. Good luck with the chemo.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. This info is very reassuring. I have got questions I also need to ask about medication I'm  taking. They made note if it at oncologist appointment, but don't if OK to carry on with. Hope they'll have that info. Think I'm just getting anxious because treatment is actually starting and feels mire real now.

  • Yes, I was anxious before I started - there is so much information but you don't really know how it will affect you personally until you're in it. Much better now that I know what I'm dealing with - and that I can get through it. Hope all goes well for you xx

  • Thank you for your help, I wish you well on your forward journey. Xx
