  • Hello Jflower2,

I am so sorry to hear about your family member's prostate cancer which has spread to his bones. It can't be easy for him living alone at his age with advanced prostate cancer but I can understand that those close to him want to respect his wish to stay at home if he can. I hope that you will hear from others who have a loved one with cancer who has decided to stay at home at the end of their life and that they will have some good tips for you. Our section on Family, Friends and Caregivers may be of interest to you and has some tips on how to best support a loved one with cancer.

We also have useful information on our website on choosing where to die and it will tell you more about choosing to die at home and being at home for end of life care. It mentions that a community palliative care or hospice team will work with his GP and other services in the community to care for him at home. Marie Curie is also another good resource for end of life care so I would suggest you have a look at their website and information and they may be able to offer some help too so well worth looking into.

We're thinking of you and your family member during this challenging time and wanted you to know that you are not alone.

    Best wishes,
