Just about to start chemo and wanting advice and tips on how to get through once every 3 weeks. 6 sessions
Hi - I am about to start soon as well, I don't have any advice but I wanted to wish you well.
Hi, I'm just waiting for a date to start my EC-T chemo within the next couple of weeks. Need an appointment to have a port fitted, if it's agreed. Also have wig consultation on Monday. Starting to feel a bit nervous now to be honest. I have bought myself a neck pillow and some earphones, so I can relax and listen to music during treatment. I wish you well on your journey and would like to hear how you get on. Xx
Now have a date of 4th March for my first chemo, but still no news about a port being fitted.
Hi, I am also having 3 weekly sessions (6 sessions)
I have already had 2 treatments with my 3rd being this Thursday.
First thing to tell you is that the specialist nurses on the unit are just so lovely and extremely understanding and helpful
I decided to try the cold cap treatment which for the 1st chemo was fine. The 2nd treatment though it was awful. The nurse it was uncomfortable because my hair had thinned a lot and the cap was directly on my scalp. Have now decided not to continue with it. Far too stressful on top of going through chemo as well. Everyone to their own though.
I also had an issue with the cannula so will be having a PICC line fitted shortly (not sure what to expect)
The time goes really quickly whilst having treatment. Always someone to talk to and always something going on. Free hot drink vending machine is on the unit which is good.
My personal experience in the days following the chemo sessions was that i felt really tired and had constipation due to medication (Laxido helped). I was not bedridden at any time nor did i have nausea. Tiredness subsided after about 10 days. I tried to have a daily short walk, eat plenty of fruit/veg and drink plenty of fluids (advised by nurses)
Hope this helps, wishing you good luck x
Hi the picc line is a lot easier it’s done over local anaesthetic I went through all my chemo having a cannula and wished the picc line had been done earlier
