Anal Cancer: need some help

I was diagnosed with anal cancer in January. Saw a different consultant then in Feb who is pushing for surgery. All I know is it's squamous cell carcinoma 3cms. That news was relayed to me via a phone call of all things!! I had an appointment yesterday where I was going to tell them I do NOT want surgery for a number of reasons! But I got there and found the appointment had been cancelled (no call nor letter) and my next appointment isn't until 11th March!!

I have completely lost faith in the hospital and consultants so I'm looking around for an oncologist /hospital who specifically deal with this area of cancer and I'm willing to go privately

I live in Northern Ireland so my options appear extremely limited but I'd be willing to travel across to the mainland if I thought I could get an appointment quickly as I can't wait until mid March on NHS!!!!!!

Any advice would be very welcome. Thank you for taking the time to read this

  • I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis and the troubles you've had with your hospital appointment being postponed. It just makes what is already a stressful time even harder.

My fiance was diagnosed with rectal cancer last June and his treatment is ongoing but the hospital staff have been amazing and the Macmillan nurses are just a phone call away if we have any questions.

We are with a hospital in London so I don't know if there's any way you can see if you can get a referral there? It's staff are amazing and they have all the latest technology to help cancer patients and I'm so glad we were lucky to be assisted by them.

I wish you all the luck with your treatment
