Chemotherapy - worried about how I will cope with the side effects

Had my oncology appointment, yesterday. I had prepared myself for a mastectomy,  and treatment after.

I am now having chemotherapy first then the op.

Just feel like I have no control over anything. I am really scared and worried as it will probably happen in the next fortnight,  got to have a ct scan first.

I know it is the vest option but am really worried how I will cope with the side effects. Although they say I am only having a low dose, and injections at home.

  • Hi pandamum, sorry to hear about your diagnosis and totally understand the worries you have about side effects. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in January and initially thought I would be having mastectomy first. However after further tests it was decided I would need EC-T chemotherapy first and also Herceptin. I too should be starting my chemo in about 2 weeks, just waiting for a date. I'm starting with 3 cycles of EC, then go onto 4 cycles  of T (docetaxel), plus Herceptin. It's the docetaxel that worries me the most, due to the unpleasant side effects. Just trying to be as positive as I can at the moment and keep my diet as healthy as possible. I wish you well on your journey moving forward and hope to hear how you are doing. Xx

Thank you for your reply.  Sorry you are going through this too.

Yes I am also on docetaxel, carboplatin and trastumb via IV. And pertuzumab injections.

I have not had the confidence to look it all up, only what the oncologist said.

    Good luck x

  • Really hoping that I get a date to start treatment soon. Next step us to sort out a wig and nice hats. Also want to source the best nail care options. Hopefully we won't get too many side effects and all will go smoothly. Xx
