Breast cancer - getting anxious whilst waiting for surgery to remove lymph nodes and bilateral mastectomy

I was diagnosed with breast cancer a month ago.  Fortunately I don't need Chemo but I am now waiting for surgery to remove lymph nodes both sides and a bilateral mastectomy.  It seems to have taken ages.  My surgery date isn't until the 4th March and I am becoming increasingly anxious that the cancer will be getting worse whilst I wait.

  • Hi Rhona,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis. There is normally a wait of about 6 weeks between diagnosis and surgery. Doctors say that cancer is unlikely to grow that quickly. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer. First time around I had  lumpectomy. When I had the second one, I had a double mastectomy. That was all 14 years ago and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life. Do you have nightwear and clothing that button down the front? It is helpful, instead of trying to lift things over your head after surgery and also easier for any medical inspections.

I found the operation much easier than I'd imagined and I healed quickly afterwards.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
