Just starting on Capectabine

About to start a six month course of adjuvant therapy with Capecitabine after removal of tumour in rectum and lower end of colon. That left me pretty  hammered and (after ten weeks) they're planning to hit me with this stuff. I've read a lot of reviews and it has worked well for many people. Also, many seem to have got away with not too many problems; luck of the draw, it seems.

I can't complain but at this stage there's no sign of anything 'in there' so I may not know whether or not this future aggro is even needed; it may only be evident after future scans. I am a boringly optimistic person, which has been a great help with this (and a previous brush with prostate cancer, twelve years ago). We shall see.

I do have a worry that my colon stoma bag may be a nuisance dealing with diarrhea. Any comments from people abut that?

  • Hi Werdna,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear you are feeling OK about things at the moment. There are some other discussions on the forum about Capecitabine, so you may wish to have a search (using the bar at the top of the page) in case any of these are relevant or helpful.

Do have a chat with your doctor about any concerns or questions you have about the treatment, so you can be as prepared as possible.

Otherwise, hopefully you'll get some more replies to your post here soon.

    Wishing you all the best,
