Myelofibrosis

My mum was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis yesterday. She has been poorly since November and has been in and out of hospital with extremely low heamaglobin. She's had 6 transfusions up till now. When looking at the prognosis for this I am confused as to what sort of outcome I can expect for mum. We are all devastated and trying to understand whether we can expect for her to live for years or if it's life limiting.

Thanks for any help

  • Hi ivyGeorge,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of the situation with your mum, and I hope you are getting on OK.

We have some information on our website about Myelofibrosis. Beyond this I am unfortunately unable to advise - your mum's doctor would be the best person to speak to regarding her specific situation.

You are also welcome to speak to one of our nurses if you would like to - you can do this either by posting in the 'Ask the Nurses' section of this forum, or by calling freephone 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
