Colon cancer , CT scan, symptoms

Had a CT scan yesterday still waiting to hear back to what stage my cancer is at and what action they are taking, the facts i do know are i have a 5cm tumour, but not really got any noticeable symptoms that would have alerted me to the news i had cancer , i  thought it was just IBS on the occasion i did feel anything as on the very odd occasion i did notice as over the years it was put down to that by my doctor and a couple of buscopan and it would be gone by morning, it was only the fact that i had a slight bit of blood and mucus on my stool that made me go to the doctors in the first place and it would have been all to easy to just pass it off as nothing and not go especially how hard it can be to get a face to face appointment with a doctor, luckily i popped into my doctor in the morning and had an appointment two hours later but i know its not the case with a lot of surgeries from my wife’s experience with her doctors .
i do have a lot of wind now , my stools were a little soft and i would go about three times in the morning which i thought was normal because it seemed normal to me , i have been advised to go on a low fibre diet for now , i don’t feel fatigued nor do i seem to be losing weight so far , i did lose a little weight on the run up to the colonoscopy but that was probably down to the bowel clearing diet , the wait to know the plan of action they are taking is a stressful part , i am hoping for a good outcome but its out on my hands now

  • I also had a negative fit test in July 2022 but I found out in December 2023 i have bowel cancer, I thought bowel cancer was slow growing

  • Had my first case of night sweats tonight  , just woke up soaked in sweat had to dry off

  • Hello Gordgrc,

Thank you for sharing your colon cancer story. You did well to go to the doctor's when you noticed blood and mucus on your stool - this is definitely not something that should be ignored and I am glad that they were able to give you an appointment 2 hours later and that you have had your colonoscopy and CT scan now and things seem to be moving fast. I can imagine that this wait for a plan of action is very stressful and there is a lot of uncertainty still and I hope that you will be meeting your consultant and that you will find out more about what stage the cancer is at and what your treatment plan might be. Our website has in-depth information on bowel cancer which I hope you will find useful especially once you have found out more after you've had all your results. Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 if there is anything you would like to ask them - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. Make sure you write down any questions you might have ahead of your appointment as it's easy to forget them. You also mentioned that you have had night sweats and as this seems to be a new occurrence, it would be a good idea to ring your GP and mention it to them.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our forum who have had a colon cancer diagnosis and that they will come and share their story with you. Let us know what you find out if you get a moment - we'll be thinking of you and keeping everything crossed for a good outcome.

    Best wishes,
