Husband diagnosed with lung cancer - delays for EBUS scan are worrying me

Hi , my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer on 9th January and had a PET scan 3 weeks ago and a bronchioscopy last week, but now needs an EBUS scan, but we are having to wait until 27th February until he can have one apparently due to lack of staffing. I was under the impression that the bronchioscopy would be able to diagnose whether it is small cell or non small cell cancer, but apparently not. I ma getting increasingly worried about it being small cell and spreading rapidly while we wait for the EBUS scan - has or is anyone lese in this position?

  • Hello Vivli

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis. it's obviously a worrying time for you both.

We know that many people find this period of waiting for further tests ahead of treatment to start to be a particularly difficult time. It's natural that you're concerned about what may be happening with the disease whilst your husband is waiting.

Was your husband given details for a clinical nurse specialist he could contact if you had any questions or concerns? If so, do give them a call to talk through your concerns. Hopefully, they will be able to give you some reassurance. Alternatively, if you'd like to talk things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm for some advice, information, and support.

Hopefully the EBUS scan that he's due to have on the 27th will give his care team all the information needed to be able to discuss the next steps with you both.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
