Ovarian cancer?

Hi lovely people. I’ve recently been given the biggest health scare I’ve ever could get… basically it all started with swollen leg and tiredness, which then resulted with trip to the gp, blood test taken and CA125 raised a lot(last time was 800!).

since then I was being diagnosed with pulmonary embolismPE(blood cloths in my lungs)for which I’m on blood thinning injections.further scans showed large mass(16cm)on my right ovary…no spreads yet-thank goodness!

the trouble is doctors cannot do surgery until my PE gets clear, which could take at least 4-6 weeks from now.

in meantime, im terrified that waiting 4-6 weeks might result in metastasis(as I read that ovarian cancer can spread fast, within a matter of weeks to months?)

Has anyone gone through same/similar experience and can the cancer really spread so quick?

Thanks a million and I look forward to your replies

  • Hi Bags

I'm sorry I can't console you as I'm pretty much in the same position as you.  Thank goodness it hasn't spread despite the horror stories we read.

I hope that the PE resolves sooner rather than later so that you can have surgery.  Good luck with everything.

I have been told it's 99% probable that my mass is malignant.  My CA125 was 373 and my scan report is in.  My mass is 10.5cm x 6.5cm with ascites which worries me.  The MDT meeting is tomorrow and my MacMillan nurse has kindly offered to update me tomorrow afternoon so that I don't have to wait until my appointment on the 6th February.  I will definitely have a full hysterectomy and I'm just praying that it hasn't spread anywhere else.

  • Hi Jetter, so sorry to hear about your situation too, I do hope it hasn’t spread anywhere else.

    did you also got PE?

  • Hi Bags.

Nothing ever seems straightforward with my health.  After my CT scan and the MDT meeting yesterday they are now not convinced I have ovarian cancer.  They are leaning more towards it being Lymphoma.  There's another MDT meeting tomorrow and I have my meeting with the consultant on Tuesday to discuss findings.  I'm on a rollercoaster of emotions as was told it was 99% malignant ovarian then they throw me the curve ball of Lymphoma.  Hey ho.  No PE has been mentioned in the report.

I really hope you get sorted soon.  It's such a worry that it can consume you. x

  • Hi Jetter, thanks for your reply. It’s definitely such a worry and a rollercoaster of emotions living to find out hopefully not the worst!do hope things will be ok with you and they will have a clear plan for you after the MDT meeting -please keep us posted, I will be thinking of you.

  • No call from gynae on Friday so I suspect they are definitely leaning towards it being Lymphoma.  I have a follow up appointment on Tuesday to discuss.

I do hope you're managing to distract yourself.  It's so easy to think the worst.

  • I hope you get some clear answers and plan moving forward on Tuesday.

im trying my best to live as much normal life as I possibly can, doing lot of meditation, walking, singing…but im just upset that i cannot have the surgery sooner and it always plays on my mind what if the cancer spreads by the time when will be surgery time:(
