Dilemma

Hello. I had surgery for colorectal cancer Oct 2022 followed by 6 months of adjuvant chemotherapy. In June 2023 my CT scan was clear. In December my CT scan showed my cancer had metastasised in my lungs as nodules. I have had my oncology appointment this week and have been offered either Folfox or Folfiri for life administered every 14 days via a PICC line. At the moment I have no obvious symptoms and am generally a very fit person. I had been offered ileostomy reversal and now my world is upside down. Bearing in mind the side effects of the chemo my dilemma is what quality of life can I expect having continual treatment. Any advice would be welcome.

  • Hello PaulineE

I'm sorry to hear about the news from your most recent CT scan. Understandably, you want to make the best choice to maintain as much quality of life moving forward.

Hopefully others who have had Folox or Folfiri will post to share their experiences with you but you can also use the forum search function at the top of the page to look for either of these treatments and read posts from other members.

I'd really encourage you to talk with your care team about your concerns. They will be best placed to explain the options about starting/stopping treatment and what risks you may face by not going ahead with either choice of drug.

If you'd prefer to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Whatever decision you make, I wish you well. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
