Hi Mardybun. I was diagnosed same last August. Had radical Nephroureterectomy (removal of left kidney and ureter). Now on chemo. Hoping that most of the tumor has gone..Speak to your Urologist an specialst nurse etc. and the other members of the team. There is a lot of information to take in at first. I am 70 years old male and came through operation ok. Mcmillan people are fantastic help with especially financial advice. I get full attendance allowance. You will get over the shock and when the treatment starts things will feel better. be prepared for good days and bad days though.
Thank you for the advice.. how long did you have to wait for surgery from diagnosis
It was very quick here in Ayrshire. As my kidney tumour was very large I was in in less than two weeks. It was the radical surgery as needed to have the ureter out as well so big scar on stomach. No real pain as in intensive care for 2 days then 5:days in the ward. Recovery still ongoing now as stomach still not got all the nerves back. Luckily other kidney ok so feeling better all the time good luck and you will be in very good hands. They do these all the time. Make sure you take all the pain killers and advice. You might have problems with digestion but that will pass after a while
Did you have wind pain , waiting for surgery and wondering what is best to take for it please
Hi there. Yes. Wind and stomach cramps extremely painful. My problem was severe constipation as well. The doctor prescribed various laxatives such as laxido, lactolose and best of all bisacodyl tablets. They all take a few hours but help bowel movements which cuts down wind. Pressing on tummy or massaging and bending over while sitting helps a bit to move the wind through. Walking and exercise helps too. Good luck with the surgery. You will be fine. It's now six months since my operation and I'm starting to get most feeling back in the tummy. I can get about unaided ok now but was very weak for a while. Contact McMillan as they are fantastic help in many areas.
