Triple negative diagnosis - concerned treatment starting too late

Hi - my mum was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer on the 8th December but is not due to start her chemo until 24th January - I am concerned that as this a very aggressive cancer and already in 2 nodes under her arm that this is a long time she has been waiting. Did anyone else wait 6 weeks for chemo? Sadly she didn’t tell us until two weeks ago so couldn’t help her to try and get treatment sooner. She was unfortunate with Christmas time in between. I am not sure why it has taken so long though. She only had her MRI last week (the 18th jan) and no CT yet to see if it has spread. Absolutely terrified of what’s to come - anyone had a similar experience - thanks in advance

  • Hi

I was diagnosed 02 May 23 and started my treatment 22 June 23. I was also Triple negative. Hope this helps and good luck to you all with your journey  xx

  • Thank you so much for replying - I hope that your treatment helped you and you’re recovering now. Much love

  • Hi.  I’m 60 and was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer on 4 September but didn’t start chemo until 26 October.  I can no longer feel the lump so I’m hoping that means it’s working.  Hope this helps and all the best to you and your mum x

  • Hi, I am 29 going on 30 in April this year. Back in April last year, I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer ( a week after my birthday). Didn't start the treatment until June the 14th 2023. My cancer responded to the chemotherapy treatment which has gone down when I had my last ultrasound scan. I had terrible experience with the immunotherapy drug which led me into hospital for 2 weeks, then led me to have Addisons disease. Now I am recovering from the operation (lumpectomy so far) which I only got radiotherapy to go, I then got to lose weight to get my BMI down to have the mastectomy and reconstruction. When I was in the hospital for 2 weeks I had to have 2 MRI'S and then I had to go back into hospital for a 3rd MRI. Love to you and your mum, all the best xx

  • Hi I am 42 and in 16th April 23 was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer and didn’t start my treatment until June 23. It took about a week for results from MRI each time. I know it is frustrating waiting. All you can do is listen to experts and if you are concerned try speaking to the breast care nurses who can support you. Hope all goes well x

  • Thanks so much Carol. Glad to hear you can’t feel the lump anymore and reassured your treatment was on a similar timescale. Best wishes to you and prayers that it’s working.

  • So sorry to hear about your diagnosis and at 29 - my goodness- this triple negative is a horrible one! Sounds like you have been through the mill - prayers for your radiotherapy and your surgery - all the best to you

  • Thanks for replying - reassuring to know your times were similar and you’re right it’s such a pain waiting. The nurses and doctors have been so nice - good luck for your ongoing treatment if it’s not finished yet xx

  • Hi I fully understand how you must be feeling,  I  found a lump a week before Christmas which has turned out to be triple negative breast cancer again,  3rd time for me after having a preventative double Mastectomy,  ct scan has shown it is now metastatic so it can't be cured but hopefully  can be treated,  my appointment to just see the oncologist isn't until the 16th and I feel so anxious,  sending best wishes to your Mum , hope everything goes well x

  • Hi.  How did your mum's treatment go on the 24th? xx
