Tongue Cancer...not great timing????

Hi Everyone,

Story so far is that following a fast track referral, endoscopy and MRI, I am booked in for results on Friday. The ENT Dr confirmed that there are lesions on the base of my tongue so I am bracing myself for some rubbish news.

I am trying to remain positive and will try to deal with whatever is thrown my way. The complication for me (apart from the potential treatment) is that we are in the process of selling our house in the UK and moving to Ireland. This could not have come at a worse time. This had been our dream for a few years and we have found the perfect home for us on the West Coast of Mayo.

I am 55 years old and generally fit and healthy but I am expecting to have to face the fact that I may have to have some tricky conversations. My husband will support me and is aware of where we may be at. I have no plans to talk to my daughter or step sons until I have all the facts but it feels me with dread. I lost my eldest daughter to suicide 6 years ago,( She was 19 ) and as family we have really tried to learn to live with the grief and pain. The thought of throwing everyone into a dark place feels unbearable. We are a strong unit though and I hope we can handle anything with dignity and grace.

How is everyone else getting on? The stories and posts I have read have filled me with hope and compassion. People's strength never fails to amaze me.

  • Hi Lorraine,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this uncertainty must be difficult to deal with, and it's never easy waiting for further information. I'm also so sorry to hear of everything you've been through in the last few years - I am glad to hear you have a good support unit around you.

It's not too long to wait now until the appointment. Once you know the situation, you will be able to understand any next steps which will hopefully help a little. Take things a day at a time and keep reaching out for support wherever you feel you want to and are able to. I hope that this forum can be of some help to you - we are always here if you need it. Hopefully you'll get some more replies here soon; otherwise do feel free to browse or search the forum for other relevant discussions and people to speak to.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Big hugs to you - stay positive. Don’t give up on your dreams - you seem to have a strong family around you - they will support you as much as you would support them.
Life throws stones in our way, keep going, even if you have to make a detour as long as you have your loved ones around you and they have you ️ x
