Advice for having an abdominal hysterectomy

I was diagnosed just before Christmas with granulosa cell tumour (a type of ovarian cancer). I am due to undergo full staging surgery in a few weeks. It will be an open laparotomy with a vertical incision, to include a total hysterectomy, omentectomy and lymph node sampling in pelvis and around the aorta.

I'm looking for any advice about what to expect in terms of hospital stay, recovery, healing  and tips of things you wished you had known beforehand etc so I can be prepared as possible. Any thoughts appreciated!

    I wanted to send a reply as it will mean a few more people should see your post, so hopefully you'll get some more replies - particularly from anyone who may have similar experience to share.

    It looks like there may also be some other relevant discussions on the forum, so do have a search using the bar at the top of the page if you haven't already.

    Do of course also chat to your doctor with any questions so that you can get as much information as possible to be prepared.
