Can breast biopsy cause swelling?

I'm having a bit of a panic about a slight swelling in the breast where I had my biopsies done. The procedure was done on Thursday 11th Jan and I've just noticed this. I have a fear that I might get diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer due to redness on the breast and tender nipple. Also swelling can be a symptom, so I'm now panicking. Has anyone else experienced swelling after a biopsy?

I'm sorry to hear that you've noticed some swelling since your breast biopsy last week. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

Some women do experience some swelling following a biopsy so try not to worry too much about this. If you feel that your breast is particularly swollen, the skin is red or hot to the touch then please don't hesitate to get in touch with the breast care nurse or your GP so that they can check this out for you.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses for some support and reassurance you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope things settle for you over the next few days. Keep in touch Pippin24 and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
