Bcc removal

I had a biopsy done in early 2023 now I'm being booked in for a bcc excursion in a few weeks, the needles in my face hurt so bad in during the biopsy and they have told me the procedure I'm completely freaking out my anxiety is through the roof I can't sleep for worry.. any advice would be so greatly welcomed it's all I can think about.

  • Hi Coady. I had a bcc removed from my lower eyelid mid-2023. I was just like you - a little apprehensive pre-procedure but it all went well and I honestly didn’t feel a thing. You can and should ask about whether you can have some medication to help you to relax during the procedure - I was offered this but didn’t have it. Staff were chatting to me all the time which also helped

If you are feeling very anxious atm and not sleeping it might be worth speaking to your GP or if I can help by telling you more about my experience just drop me a note.

  • Thank you for your reply, I don't know why I'm freaking out so much but the anxiety is ridiculous. After them explaining the procedure to me it's made it even worse, they said there was nothing they could give me to help me calm my nerves or relax unfortunately. So looks like a trip to the doctors if I can get seen. Can I ask was there a lot of brusing and swelling after the operation?

  • Hi Coady. I had a bit of a shiner for a few days but not too much swelling. I have a dog who needed walked so just made sure I wore my cap and sunglasses! It was a bit tender for a few hours but generally it was fine and healed relatively quickly with a good result cosmetically too.

I know just hearing the BCC term can freak you out but remember this is very treatable and once it’s been removed, all should be good. I was in and out in approx 30 mins…..maybe plan to do something nice after your recovery and focus on preparing for that rather than your op.
if you have a Maggies Centre near to you, they are a great source of support as are MacMillan. Hope you get on OK. Take care
