Newbie breast cancer diagnosis, aged 42.

Juts wanted to say hi.

Got diagnosed with breast cancer last week. It was a massive shock. I felt a lump end of November, pure luck, the position I was lying in while in bed. Felt tiny but thought best get checked. In certain positions I can’t feel anything.

Got biopsied, which shocked me, and mammograms. I still thought it would be nothing, so to be told it’s cancer week before Christmas was a massive shock.

my 6yr old got diagnosed with Tcell lymphoma/leukaemia in June last year and we are juts getting to the maintenance part of his treatment when I will likely have my op! Such an awful year!

hi all !

  • Hi Rooftile.

Im 49f recently diagnosed on Dec 21. My husband was in the hospital at the same time, he was in critical care the week before so was having a nightmare week.

I never had a lump as such, I just had a achy boob, they said my cancer was a accidental find from my gp sending me for a mammogram for the sore boob. I have my op in 2 days x

Sorry to hear about your child too x

  • Life can be so cruel, all that in one week! so unfair. How is your husband doing?

please met me know how you get on, hope all goes well. All very quick for you. So glad you got sent for the mammogram!

my boy is doing good. It’s just a lot of plates to spin, if you get me  :)

  • He is out of hospital, I think they started treating him for potential sepsis thats why he ended up in critical care, but hes just waiting now for a follow up procedure, which is also something for me to worry about.

Yes its so very quick, I have all these questions to ask as well as running our own business and planning a joint 50th in March lol. Just informed my friends that if im having radiotherapy at the time of the party it will be a pyjama party.

So many plates you are spinning xx

Have you got any dates for a op yet and what treatments you may be looking at x

  • I think a lot of plates being spun between us. ️ all very hard.

Also running your own business must be difficult especially in terms of stability in situations like this. I hope you have good help.

I have an appointment 11th of this month to make a plan. I am hopefully having lumpectomy and radiotherapy. Not sure how much, that’s as long as nothing new comes from the MRI. Once this is done I am going to try and do an overhaul of my lifestyle. I need to be around for my boy. Mainly need to eat better and exercise more.

    how are things with you?

  • Feeling a bit apprehensive, had worked myself up into thinking radiotherapy will be straight after op, but now it seems I need to heal first before that starts.

I have my op tomorrow, I have to go to two hospitals, one to have a marker wire fitted then straight to the other to have the op. So will be a long day tomorrow.

Just been to get me some non wire comfy bras they suggested for recovery x

  • That’s what I was thinking to be honest. So it’s heal up then radiotherapy.
it’s hard not to work ourselves up about things.
Good luck for tomorrow and when you feel able please update. Sounds like a difficult day going between different hospitals. I have a family friend had her op a few weeks ago. She had gotten some sports bras with a zip on the front.

    Hope all goes well tomorrow.

  • Thankyou.

I shall keep in touch. They have some super soft bras in asda with no underwire  its a pain anytime finding Gcup bras lol

    Xx

  • Hi Shanie,

So sorry to hear that both you and your hubby are going through the mill at present. You will find that it is a good idea to write down any questions you have in advance of any appointment. This ensures that you don't forget anything important, while you're there.

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow and hope that all goes well.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I hope you are o.k Shanie
