Some advice suspected bcc

So I went for a private skin check by a specialist nurse who suspected bcc on my nose she took a picture and send it to a dermotogist who said primary diagnose bcc. I went through nhs and saw a dermatologist today who spent a good 20min looking at it and around it with his dermocope and he told me that he don’t see any vessels and he thinks it’s unlikely to be a bcc but because I went privately and they suspected his like to cover my back Il refer you for a biopsy and it’s up To you if you want to cancel it or not. He was a lead consultant and saw me in person whereas private was just from a picture now my question is he told me he would use a shave biopsy but looking on my Notes it says scoop biopsy. So I’m really in 2 minds about having it done? I’m worried about causing more damamge and scarring especially because it’s on my nose for it to all be fine or by not doing it and then it turns out it is.

had anyone had one removed on their nose his noted it 2mmx2mm and drew around it with a pen but whether outline was a lot bigger than my actual spot. Any advice would be appreciated?

  • Hello Sweetcheeks5,

You did well to see a dermatologist who actually looked at it and examined it for a good 20 mins but it must have left you a bit confused if he drew very different conclusions from the private dermatologist. The private dermatologist did not actually see you or examine you which is always a better option than looking at a picture. As he is a lead consultant and has examined you I think you can trust his expertise but I can understand why you are worried about the biopsy. Perhaps you could share your worries with the consultant and ask whether there is any risk of damage or scarring - knowing all the facts and risks before the actual procedure will help you decide on whether to go ahead with it. You could also get a third opinion given that there is a slight disagreement between the two experts you have seen on what it might be; it might give you reassurance to get a third opinion from a dermatologist who will also examine you in person and who will hopefully confirm what they have said to you. You can find out more about getting another opinion on this page

Other members of our community may have had a similar experience before and I did a little search on the forum for you and found   's thread from last month which may be of interest to you. This member's mum had a BCC removed on the tip of her nose so she may have also had previous experience of the biopsies. Don't hesitate to respond to her thread too if you wish to do so.
