Prostatectomy - meeting oncology team tomorrow. What questions should we ask?

Hi everyone

My husband was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer  3 weeks ago  Gleason score 7 (3+4 )

We are waiting on the bone scan results and he is booked with the Robotic Clinic for next week to meet the team for a Prostatectomy .

The doesn't seem to be much conversation around radiotherapy as an option . We are going back tomorrow ( 16th Nov ) to meet the Oncology team . Are there questions we should ask as to why they seem to be nudging us to the prostatectomy .

Sorry if this is a daft question , I just want to make sure he has all the info he needs and feels in control of his choices. He is a very gentle man and wont ask himself so I feel like I need to have his corner .

Thank you

  • Hello Mumra5

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis. It's understandably a difficult time for you and natural that might have questions about the recommended treatment protocol. I hope that the appointment with the Oncologist yesterday gave you both some clarity on things and that you're feeling more confident about the next steps.

Here at Cancer Research UK, we have a team of nurses that you can call to talk things through with if you think that may be helpful. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that the appointment with the robotics team next week goes smoothly. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
