Diagnosed with Renal Cancer 4 months ago - awaiting a date for Surgery

I wondered if anyone could please confirm the National Treatment Standards and Targets for Cancer.

I was diagnosed with Cancer of my Right Kidney on 10/07/2023; had my pre-op on 13/10/2023 and am currently awaiting a date for Surgery. The Waiting List Office have just advised me that no date for Surgery has been set by the Surgeon, but will follow this up with him.

My question - are there any National Standards to govern how long each stage of the treatment plan should be completed within

Grateful for any advice or guidance from colleagues - thank you

  • Hello Mkefsr

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis and the wait that you've had regarding a date for the surgery.

We do have some information on our website about cancer waiting times that you may find helpful. We know that many people are experiencing delays in their cancer diagnosis and treatments across the UK at the moment and this can be for a variety of reasons. You might want to consider getting in touch with the hospital PALS team as it's part of their role to help resolve concerns or problems when you're using the NHS.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses for some advice and support you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you have a date soon for your surgery and that things progress smoothly for there on.

    Best wishes,
