Well this isn’t in my life plan

Hi tthere

I am new to this forum

found a lump in my left breast 25th October went to the doctors the following day, and he did an online referral when I got home the following day, the letters on my doormat

went into my hospital on Halloween. Had my first mammogram, then I was sent round to have an ultrasound done where they told me it wasn’t a cyst- I had to have two biopsies done, one in the breast and one in the armpit because I said I had two predominant lymph-node

They also inserted a clip, and then I had to go back round and have another mammogram done. After that I was taken into room to speak to a consultant. I had to get on dressed as she had a field and as I was  getting dressed, she asked if anybody was with me today and I said no

So I asked her out right do you think it’s cancer and she said yes, the lump is a high suspicion

That’s when my world fell apart. The first thing I thought of was my kids, my job I  had only just sorted out my life insurance.

Got taken into another room to speak to Breast nurse and she told me that my biopsies will be sent to be tested, and I’ve got to go back Thursday to talk about the plan of action

I am totally numb

  • Hi,

The worst bit is definitely waiting for biopsy results. I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer on Sept 25th but once I was given a clear plan of action I felt better and more in control. In most cases breast cancer is treatable. I have been really impressed with the support and clear communication I have had from the hospital. I am having a lumpectomy and some  lymph nodes removed on Friday followed later by radiotherapy. It is scary waiting for results and it is hard to stop worrying about worse case scenarios but it will be better once you know for sure what is happening. I hope you get results very soon. Good luck xxx

  • Hi Wisey254

I too was diagnosed in September this year and it was like someone whipped the rug from right under my life plans.  I'm 59 and had a holiday planned for my 60th in January which has had to be cancelled. I was also on my own when I found out, being 99% certain it was just another cyst.  But how wrong I was.

As Janeann said, most breast cancers are treatable and your treatment plan will be worked out for what's best for you. You will get through this and you will be able to pick up your life again.  This isn't a "stop", this is just a "pause".

The best thing that's come out of this for me is finding out how much my neighbours care and how many good friends I have around me.  I live alone with my little dog so have had to rely on them for lifts to hospital and walking the dog for me (I've not had a great time with the chemo, but I am in the minority).

Once you get your results and a plan in place, you will settle a little.  The anxiety of not knowing for sure and what's going to happen is the worst part.

Thinking of you and hope you keep us all posted on here when you're ready.

    xx

  • ive also got a girls weekend booked 2nd weekend in january 2024 - yearly blowout so to speak, holiday booked in June, im now worried that I am going to have to cancel this altogether - I know its not the end of the world, at the moment its the 2 things im looking forward too x

  • Hi Wisey,

Try not to worry about your holidays until you see what the consultant has to say tomorrow. You may still be able to work your treatment around your holidays, if you discuss it with her

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Wisey254,

Hope today getting your results went ok ( as well as it can ). Remember we are here to support you. It’s good to be positive but also let yourself feel sad too and have a good cry if you need to xxx

  • Stage 2
Invasive ductual it’s in my lymph node
    Got to have bloods done
CT scan and MRI to see if it’s any where else
Appointment with breast services within a week then meeting with oncology
Starting chemo first to shrink then have to have surgery to remove then possibly radiotherapy
Looking at this all going on during the next 6 months
Risk of losing hair - I’ll deal with it if it happens x

I’m sorry to hear you had a diagnosis it’s always a shock even though you were expecting it after they said it was suspicious

im Giving you massive hug around you just remember this is temporary your life will return to normal before you know it , my advice is to try and keep this as normal as possible you will fly it im here if you need a chat friend anytime lots of love Lara xxx

  • Hi Wisey,

I am so sorry to hear this. You're going to have a tough few months ahead of you, but you'll find the strength to get through it. I am glad to hear that you will have all of these other tests to rule out any further spread.  I know that we all dread losing our hair, but that's a small price to pay, when you look at the bigger picture. Give yourself some time for your diagnosis to sink in, as it probably doesn't feel as if this is really happening to you at the moment.

Please keep in touch and let us know how your tests go. As you know, we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,
That’s alot for you to process and probably seems quite overwhelming. The hard bit now is telling people whilst trying to come to terms with it yourself. My sister in law has just finished chemo which worked well to shrink lump and is having surgery next week. Make sure you take time for yourself and treat yourself. All the checks will hopefully help reassure you.

    Take care,

    Jane

  • Thank you all so much for your time to reply back to me I so appreciate it x
