Well this isn’t in my life plan

Hi tthere

I am new to this forum

found a lump in my left breast 25th October went to the doctors the following day, and he did an online referral when I got home the following day, the letters on my doormat

went into my hospital on Halloween. Had my first mammogram, then I was sent round to have an ultrasound done where they told me it wasn’t a cyst- I had to have two biopsies done, one in the breast and one in the armpit because I said I had two predominant lymph-node

They also inserted a clip, and then I had to go back round and have another mammogram done. After that I was taken into room to speak to a consultant. I had to get on dressed as she had a field and as I was  getting dressed, she asked if anybody was with me today and I said no

So I asked her out right do you think it’s cancer and she said yes, the lump is a high suspicion

That’s when my world fell apart. The first thing I thought of was my kids, my job I  had only just sorted out my life insurance.

Got taken into another room to speak to Breast nurse and she told me that my biopsies will be sent to be tested, and I’ve got to go back Thursday to talk about the plan of action

I am totally numb

  • Hi,

The worst bit is definitely waiting for biopsy results. I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer on Sept 25th but once I was given a clear plan of action I felt better and more in control. In most cases breast cancer is treatable. I have been really impressed with the support and clear communication I have had from the hospital. I am having a lumpectomy and some  lymph nodes removed on Friday followed later by radiotherapy. It is scary waiting for results and it is hard to stop worrying about worse case scenarios but it will be better once you know for sure what is happening. I hope you get results very soon. Good luck xxx

  • Hi Janeann,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear that you are waiting for surgery. You are quite right - irrespective of the outcome, it is so much easier once you know what you are dealing with. I have been through 2 bouts of breast cancer, within a year of one another and can testify that it is all very straightforward and "doable". The care teams at the hospitals are really excellent. Put your faith in them and let them do the worrying for you.

I shall be thinking of you on Friday and hope that all goes well.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you so much for your kind words x
