DCIS

Hi everyone.

I was diagnosed with DCIS High grade.

I had a lumpectomy.  I was informed that I no longer require radiotherapy because my DCIS was only 11mm and that actually everything was taken out during my biopsy.  So when I had the lumpectomy the mag seed guidance.  The surgery performed actually took out the mag seed and healthy margins.

I'm relieved I don't need or require further treatment.

My question is this..I had the lumpectomy end of September 2023. About 5 weeks ago. The procedure was at 6 o'clock.

I started to get pain and a lump higher up near my arm pit. Pain again in my back. But my breast since surgery is lumpy.  Lumps at 6 o'clock a weird line like a tube from surgery scar pointing down or up from rib cage towards the scar.

But actually pain is deep and breast is tender. Nipple a little white also.

Also I come over really tired and for no reason.

Is this common with DCIS surgery.

  • Hi JulieJulie,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am glad to hear that you have already had your surgery and that your margins were clear. It must be a great relief to have this all behind you and to be told that you don't need any further treatment. I am not a doctor and cannot explain why your breasts and back are now painful. Did they remove any lymph nodes at the time of surgery? If so, I suspect that the lump you feel near your arm pit is scarring. The weird line is also scarring. If you are worried about this, why not phone your specialist nurse and ask if all this is normal?

Unfortunately, the tiredness comes with the territory and in my case took some time to settle down. Are you taking any hormone tablets? You can feel tired when taking these too.

I hope that you are recovering well from your surgery.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
