Dad diagnosed with Stage 4 Oesophagus Cancer

Morning!

Last week my dad was diagnosed with T4 N2 M1 Oesophagus cancer and have only offered him Palliative Chemotherapy.

I literally don't know what to do, my dad won't talk about it and keeps saying he is going to be a miracle and beat this. I completely understand this.

However, i just don't know where to go. Can anyone give any advise on the road ahead, they said in the meeting that he has months to short years left.  What does this even mean?

Sorry, i am rambling a bit but it has hit me like a ton of bricks and my dads  attitude to it all is worrying me.

Thanks

  • Hi and I’m sorry to read your post, I can’t help much apart from telling you  there’s a forum on face book called Oesophagus cancer and caregivers UK, their a very helpful bunch of people, you have to join as it’s a private group but I’m sure they’ll help you with any questions. My husband has stomach cancer that’s why I joined the group. Good luck to you all xx

  • Hi,

    That sounds very familiar.
I was in a very similar situation to your husband ten years ago this week.
My case is unusual and I’d hate to raise false hopes but sometimes things do sometimes go better than expected.
The only advice I can give is please don’t give up hope but try to be realistic about the odds he is facing.

    Good luck
    Dave
