I've never heard of hormone therapy to keep cancer at bay so you can travel ,is there no way you can delay the holiday until you get sorted out with your treatment especially as its going to be delayed for quite a while .

I’m being totally honest here sorry if it sounds blunt but I would not wait that amount of time is it 3 weeks until you go then the holiday then 6 weeks later ?

yes a diagnosis is horrendous thought my life would never be the same again however my diagnosis was July 22 things soon get back to normal I have been on 7 holidays since making up for lost time lol

A very warm welcome to our forum. 

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis, especially as it comes so close to your holiday. Do you know what type of breast cancer you have and what stage it is at? Some cancers are more aggressive than others. It sounds as if yours might be one of the less aggressive strains and I suspect that this is why your nurse said that you could still go away, provided that you take hormone therapy.

If you read the side-effects of hormone therapy, they are quite alarming. However, not everyone gets them and some people just sail through it. The side-effects vary slightly between the different therapies and don't usually kick in until you've been taking them for a few weeks. The main question is whether or not you can take the strain of knowing that the cancer is there, for another 10 or 11 weeks. Another consideration is  - when would you get surgery if you remain at home? The chances are that there won't be all that big a difference between the two dates.

Whatever you decide, I hope that it's the right decision for you.

Thanks for your reply. I'm awaiting the type after my biopsy Monday. It was just a thought as I said I was going away. The nurse did say if was one of the other cancers it would be a no anyway.  I would  be panicking so would rather not go. Thanks again..  

Good call, you would probably have been too worried to enjoy your holiday anyway!
