Allergic Reaction to Paclitaxel

Hi

I was due to have my first round of chemo treatment last Thursday but unfortunately suffered a severe allergic reaction to the paclitaxel and treatment had to be halted.  I am seeing my consultant on Wednesday to hopefully discuss a new treatment plan, but in the mean time, I just wonder if anyone else has suffered anything similar?  Mine was pretty bad, with my lower back going into spasm which meant I had no control over my body and found it difficult to catch my breath.  Thankfully the emergency team sorted me out quickly but it frightened the life out of me and am now very anxious about trying anything else.

If anyone has any words of comfort or advice, I'd be very grateful!

  • Hello Carol

I'm sorry to hear about your recent experience during your first round of treatment. It must have been a very scary experience.

I wanted to post to wish you well for your appointment tomorrow with the specialist. Hopefully, they will be able to give you some support and reassurance to help you think about other possible treatment options.

If you want to talk things through with one of our nurses at any point you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Keep in touch Carol and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
