Tamoxifen - please make sure you take it

Hello

I'm writing this post hoping it will help at least one person.

After my mastectomy I was supposed to take tamoxifen. My oncotype test came back with a low score so I didn't have radio or chemo. I did a research on tamoxifen and decided to stop tamoxifen.  A year later and cancer returned. So I'm writing this so others can learn from my story. If I could go back in time would not underestimate .. I would take it . So take tamoxifen is my advice.

I hope this helps someone.

  • I mean it might have returned regardless. But at least would slow the growth...so take the tamoxifen

  • Birgitta

I remember speaking to you last year , I’m sorry your cancer has returned this is not good news , was this picked up on your first mammogram?
I have been on tamoxifen for 1 year had my first annual check in July all clear xx

  • Hello

    Brigitte

afe you the lady I was speaking to last year and you told me about the different supplements your sister had organised for you ?

  • Hi Brigitta,

I am so sorry to hear that your cancer has returned within a year and know how disappointing this must be. Thank you for being brave enough to tell us that you did not persevere with taking the Tamoxifen. I am hoping that others who are starting out on their cancer journeys may read this and understand the importance of taking this medication.

Does this mean further treatment for you this time?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Brigitta,

This is something I needed to read, so thank you. I know I’m going to be prescribed Tamoxifen or similar, and at times had been thinking I might not take it. I’m in the early stages of this journey, and the side effects sound potentially horrible, but I guess the alternative can be worse.

I wish you lots of love and luck for what lies ahead xx

  • Hi Brigitta,

I hope you are now over the worst having only just found this post and it was a year ago.

My journey has just begun, diagnosed with DCIS grade 1, had a lumpectomy and looking at 3 weeks radiotherapy in January.

Tamoxifen put the fear of god in me and I have really been worrying about it and wasn't going to take it.

Having read your advice im going to give it a go

    THANK YOU x
