Breast cancer pain

Is it normal to have pain in breast  when I first felt lump it was just a little tender.  When I had scan and Biopsy They found further calcification.

But now it's really uncomfortable and quite painful.

This was prior to starting Chemo yesterday

  • Hi Julles,

A very warm welcome to our forum,

The breast can be sore for quite a while after you've had a biopsy, but it will eventually settle down. How did you get on with your first chemo session yesterday?

Please keep in touch and let us know how you're getting on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Jolamine

The pain I am talking about is not from biopsy, Both were done weeks ago.

I needed to have biopsy repeated because unclear results from 1st one. They confirmed lump I found was cancerous, but unsure about the larger calcium deposits.

So they arranged a more advanced one, lots of bruising after first but none after second. I am concerned that cancer is growing more advanced.

  • Hi Jules,

This is a concern that we all have, but you have started chemo and this usually makes the tumour shrink. This means that if anything, the treatment should be doing the opposite to what you fear. It is unusual to have pain with breast cancer. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and had pain for several months following my biopsies. That was all 14 years ago and I am still living life to the full.

Are you planning to have surgery after you finish your chemo? Mention your pain next time you're back at the hospital, or phone your breast care nurse for advice and reassurance. They really are very helpful.
