Thyroid 3f

Hi I had a biopsy and the doctor said I have a thy 3f  he has spoke to mdt and said I need it took out does this mean I have cancer I am worried about this operation

  • Hello SueNige1234

I'm sorry to hear that your recent thyroid biopsy has come back with some confusing results. We often get people posting here on the forum who have been told that their results are Thy3f and are concerned that this means they have cancer.

A Thy3f result is an indeterminate result which means that from the information available, the MDT is unable to say if the area biopsied is benign or malignant (non-cancerous or cancerous).

It's understandable that you're feeling worried. We know that for many people this period of uncertainty can be difficult. It can sometimes help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it helpful to chat with one of our team of nurses. I know they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support they can. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope you have some positive news soon.

    Best wishes,
