So confused

Hi all, I recently had a tumour removed from my bladder, and upon testing it, they learned it was a a T3 - an aggressive tumour. It was removed from the Connective Tissue part of the bladder. However, it was noticed from a CT Scan that there is a possible muscle invasive bladder cancer found in my bladder wall with a view that it may already passed into the fat layer on the outside. I also have a CIS tumour on the internal lining of my bladder.

As they highly suspect that the tumour in my bladder wall is invasive due to my removed tumour as being a T3, they are unsure. I have the option of a re-section to see if it is a muscle invasive tumour. My Oncologist believes that I should be removing my bladder completely with a urostomy used for life as he highly suspects the tumour is malignant. If a resection shows that it is not, then I would be subject to BCG therapy vaccine.

I have been looking into Immunotherapy and I really fancy the Dendricht Cell Therapy which uses your own immune system to kill and fight cancel cells. However these seem to only be available in other European countries, and to be paid for in private. It costs up to £40,000. Does anyone know if any NHS trust in the UK offer DCT? My trust in West Yorkshire does not.

Please let me also take the opportunity to share my own empathy to all cancer patients. I pray every one of us has the best outcome.

  • Hello Justice and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation and the difficult decision you have to make.

Unfortunately I can't offer any information on where dendritic cell therapy may be offered in the UK but our cancer nurses may be able to help so if you'd like to discuss this with them, you can do so on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to help.

Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to offer their thoughts and advice to you as well.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
