Mind is spiralling - reading about the worst case

Hi Everyone

I’ve been suffering from bloating for several months which was uncomfortable but not really painful until about two weeks ago. I then had very dark stools which prompted me to go to A&E.

The CT scan showing multiple lesions in his liver and peritoneum and evidence that it has spread - looking at google the prognosis is dire, both are untreatable and life expectancy is months

I’m otherwise healthy, play tennis multiple times a week, 44 years old

I know I shouldn’t read on google, but panicking and it would be good to hear someone else’s experiences

  • Hi Mundly,

You mustn’t cherry pick what Dr Google tells you - I’ve just consulted him and he advised “Noncancerous, or benign, liver lesions are common. They don't spread to other areas of your body and don't usually cause any health issues.” He also advises “Possible causes include: Scarring (cirrhosis) from chronic liver disease, which occurs with hepatitis B, hepatitis C and heavy drinking.Smoking.Hormones found in birth control pills.”

I’m guessing you’ve been told the next step will be a biopsy to test whether cancer cells are present? I hope those tests come around sooner, rather than later.

Waiting for a diagnosis is always horrible with your mind exploring “what ifs” and Dr Google just adds to the stress levels. I hope this turns out to be a false alarm.

    Good luck!

    Dave
