Waiting..guess cos it's summer.

Today's 3rd August. Confirmation that I need mastectomy and armpit clearance 28 July after all the tests done. Good news that it's not spread anywhere else.

Next appt 8th Sept to then set op.date. I'm raring to go. Trying to remain positive. Worried that it will have spread or lump in armpit enlarged by 8 Sept.  That means may not have op for another 4 weeks. Or it could be sooner.

Anyway playing the waiting game! I decided not to got for breast reduction..just the mastectomy then wear a prosthetic. Just want the cancer out. Guess I have to be patient. Am 65 but don't feel it!

  • Hello Renate, glad to hear you have positivie head on. I had the same last July ,but I had bilateral mastectomies and.a few weeks later the lymphclearance on my left .Felt good throughout , hardly any discomfort. Had Chemo til March ,which was also pretty good ,no side effects ,just a bit of tiredness and fuzzy head for 3 days . I waited a few weeks in between biopsies but consultant assured me it was save to wait . Have been discharged a few months ago and decided to have reconstruction soon . Stay positive , I am sure all be fine . I am nearly 62 and feel great  .Good luck xx

  • Nice to hear such a positive result and breezing through! Well done!

  • Renate

  • Hi Renate,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that you find yourself in this position. Do you know what type of breast cancer you have, or what stage it is?

I had just turned 60 when I was diagnosed with my first bout of breast cancer and had a lumpectomy. A year later I discovered another cancer in the same breast and had a double mastectomy. The whole procedure was very straightforward. I didn't have reconstruction and manage with an assortment of prostheses for different activities. That was all 14 years ago and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you very encouraging. Don't really understand cancer grades yet. Think it's stage 2 er positive h something negative.

Hope treatment gives me 5 years at least!

  • Hi ladies , glad to hear you are positive . The waiting game is a pain ! I was diagnosed on 2/5/23 local recurrence 18 years later . I’m waiting for a DIEP reconstruction but as I have previous radiotherapy and used to smoke had to wait 3 months on Letrozole . I’ve just had my pre op assessment cancelled for 5/9/23 hoping that doesn’t delay surgery which was scheduled for Oct . So I’m 3 months off work , I get paid full pay for 6 months then it goes to half but that’s the least of my worries! Keeping busy going to the gym ! Shopping!

  • HI LCR,

I'm so sorry to hear that your pre-op assessment has been cancelled and hope that this doesn't delay your operation any further. Have you been given any reason for this, or were you given a new appointment? I hope that all is settled soon.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi there , thank you for your post . I rang them today and managed to get an appointment a day earlier . It was because one staff member was on leave and the other on a study day x

  • Hi LCR,

That doesn't sound so bad then. A bit of a wait still, but I hope that the procedure goes well for you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,
