Tips on staying comfortable after breast surgery

Has anyone got any useful tips on how to stay as comfortable as possible after breast surgery. I understand you are supposed to sleep at an angle of at least 45 degrees. How did you manage this?  A load of pillows? V shaped pillows? What worked best for you when you were up and about? Would love to hear your tips.

  • Hello there , welcome ! First of all ,after bilateral mastectomies I did not have any pain, maybe slight discomfort, but nothing Panadol wouldn’t sort .I started off with 4 drains ,2 were removed before I went home . Volunteers at the hospital made these really handy bags ,you could put your drains in and wear across your body . Also we were given these little heart shaped pillows you could place under your arm when sitting down or lying in bed. Surprising how comfy that was too . In bed ,I just arranged my pillows into a triangle but you could get a special pillow . It was strange not being able to go onto your side but you get used to it .I bought myself some long shirt nightdresses ,buttons down the front .My husband had to wash my back for me and my hair ,otherwise I managed everything else .Good luck xx
