Looks like I am about to join the breast cancer train.

7 weeks ago I fell off my horse and broke some ribs which led to a CT scan.  The radiologist highlighted what he thought was a fibroadenomas but recommended there was further investigation.  Today I went to the breast clinic and the ultrasound showed a dark shadow.  Biopsies taken, so now the 2-3 week waiting begins.  At the end of various mammograms, ultrasound scans and a mammogram with topography, I was invited into a room to discuss the results.  You know the news isn't good when you get taken into a room with comfy chairs, a table and a box of tissues on the table.  On a scale of 1-5, they have given me a 4 for the lump being cancer.  Neither my GP nor the doctor at the breast clinic were able to feel the lump.  The lump is 1.2 cm at its biggest, there is a positive to breaking your ribs!  There is no family history of breast cancer. The probable course of action will be a lumpectomy and if I am lucky, no further treatment, just depends on what kind of cancer it is.

i just wanted to ask if the titanium clip they inserted during the biopsy is instead of the wire procedure before the lumpectomy?

I think the doctor was surprised how matter of fact I was when told but I had thought about the fact it may be cancer beforehand.  I am generally quite a pragmatic person so just wanted to know everything about the treatment.  I feel if I have all the facts then I am in more control.

So now the waiting game commences.

I just wanted to write this here because I don't have any intention of telling anyone about this until the results come through.  Of course, my husband knows, he is away until tomorrow.  I have also told my sister and we have decided not to tell my elderly mother until we know what the actual state of play is.

Thanks for reading my missive!

hopefully you won’t get a diagnosis good luck hete to chat anytime xxxlove Lara x

  • Hi Lara, thanks for your message, I hope you have made a good recovery.  I hope I don't have cancer but the staff didn't seem very optimistic.  Who knew breaking your ribs would lead to a possible breast cancer diagnosis.  I have never missed a breast screening invitation.

I never felt any lump either mine was 1.3

timy tiny but was told at my first appointment it looked suspicious a week later it was cold confirmed,I sort of got myself prepared for bad news xxx

remenbdr only a biopsy result can give you the answers they could be wrong xx

    good luck love Lara xxx

  • I have just been through surgery following a positive biopsy which the hospital were not expecting so came as a bit of a shock to us all. I am just on the second waiting game following the surgery to know whether they have got clean margins or whether my lymph nodes are clear, which will then give me a clearer picture for future treatment.

At the point of biopsy I only told a few close people as thought they I did not want to tell anyone until there was something to tell.

My fingers are crossed that news is better for you xx

how are you feeling ? Xx

  • Not too bad actually, just getting on with life, even if today was attacking my ironing mound that was competing with Mt Everest!  I just wish it would stop raining so I can take a couple of the hounds for a long walk across the moor.  Currently, they are only nipping outside to do the necessary and then diving back in the house as quickly as possible.   "I wonder if it is" is always at the back of my mind but I think I'm doing ok (was given a 2-3 week wait for results), just trucking on for now.  Added some supplements to the supplements I already take, one being a probiotic - a healthy gut is good for health all around and green juice which is absolutely disgusting!. I have been mixing it with a berry smoothie which makes it tolerable.  I have also finally been able to get back to working out now that my ribs seemed to be healed.  Thanks for asking.
