Arm pain after first session of chemo. Has anyone else had this?

Hi just wondering if anyone has struggled with arm pain, can only describe it as ur muscle/tendons being pulled, following on from chemo? I had inflamed vein on my hand following my first session of chemo and mg arm is sore now on a daily basis to the point that it’s painful even applying moisturiser to my skin? I’ve mentioned this to the nurses but no one seeems concerned? Thanks xx

  • Hello Leanne1202,

You did well to mention this to the nurses and it's reassuring that they didn't seem concerned. If you are worried about it and these symptoms persist, get in touch with your GP or consultant who may have some useful suggestions for you. There is helpful information on our website about side effects of chemotherapy though it doesn't specifically mention arm pain. Feel free also to give our nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Other forum members may have suffered similar arm pain issues following chemotherapy and I will now let them come and share their story with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Lucy

I am concerned about it now as I’m still having pain and can’t extend arm fully etc! I am due my next dose next Friday and don’t want any needles going near my arm/hand! I thought it was imagination but definitely not? Not been the same since treatment!! I have an appy at the hospital on Tuesday about a picc line instead of always having to get injections etc xx
