Invasive

I was diagnosed with grade 2 invasive ductal carcinoma 3 weeks ago,had appt with doc last week, told me I would get Letrozole to reduce tumour before surgery, but got phone call yesterday to say that I have Hers2 borderline which was not discussed at meeting, now I have to have chemo and see an oncologist which is a 5 week waiting list and have to go to another city which is 40 mile away,I’m so sick with worry ,I thought I would be staring treatment yesterday, anyone else been through this xx

  • Hello and welcome

sorry you had a diagnosis , hete to chat anytime I can’t help on your post as I’m u sure of waits for chemo ect but I’m sure they won’t let you wait longer than needed xx love Lara x

  • Hi Zanndra

I have 3 tumours and one of them is apparently HER2 positive which means there is a chance of chemotherapy   i am now on Letrozole too and will have mastectomy next month. I’mso sorry you are also going through this and that you have to travel so far!

Surely there must be a way to go nearer?
    Sending you abugv hug x

  • laraj,I was just leaving consulting room with my instructions to ph GP for the tablets and all the info to go with them ,he was on line, when he said oh just cancel that ,he said he would have to meet up with the team again as one doc thought that chemo was best for me  they would ph me with result of meeting which was borderline Her2,can’t understand why this was not picked up at the meeting last week and having to make me go through all this anxiety again,we had the best hospital for breast cancer once, but now they don’t have any specialists the reason for me to wait,it has been,3 weeks since I had biopsy etc ,xx

  • Hi,Jayjay,I did not get any medication,He told me from the diagnoses that I would get letrozole, but said other doc thinks chemo which I think is the tablet form,I’ve just to go and have a talk with him

I will have to book a hotel room overnight ,husband and I don’t drive and family are all working ,my anxiety had gone in the consulting room last Tues when I thought treatment was starting but started again with this phone call, today I’m feeling ill, can’t stop crying ,which you well on your op xxx

  • I’m sorry! All of this is stressful enough without you having to travel too that’s terrible

  • After being told about my results and having to wait 5 weeks on appt to see onocologist,to discuss my treatment, doc called me today and said he wants a mri scan,to see size of tumour and look for anything they could have missed, more anxiety added x

  • Sandra bless you they sure are messing you about lovely I understand your worry’s , when I was diagnosed I was like you I wanted to start the process immediately x

  • Thanks all got letter today ,Hers2 borderline is in fact positive, had MRI yesterday which was ordered last week, now I have consultation with onocologist on 21 st July which is over 3 weeks  to wait, discuss chemo, that will make it almost 8 weeks since my diagnosis and still have not had any treatment,I’m so worried in case this has spread.x

  • Hi Zanndra,

A very warm welcome to our forum. The reason that you didn't get your HER2 results at your meeting, is because it usually takes 1-3 weeks longer for these results to come back, than it does for your other results, so your surgeon was unlikely to have had them back at that time. I am glad to hear that you have now had your MRI done. Now you are back with another anxious 3 weeks of waiting! This is par for the course and I'm  sure that your surgeon wouldn't leave you for this time, if s/he felt that there was any likelihood of it spreading.

Nearly all of us here would agree that waiting for results is the worst part of our cancer journey. The "unknown" is a horrible place to be - you will feel better once you know exactly what you are dealing with and how you are going to treat it.

I sincerely hope that all goes well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
