Pre-treatment blood counts in triple negative breast cancer

Hi

I have recently been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. I felt fine physically (if anxious mentally) and have been awaiting surgery. The past couple of weeks however I have started feeling increasingly unwell. Hot flashes, dizzy. My pre-surgery bloods showed very high neutrophils.

I will ask my consultant, but has anybody else had high neutrofils pre treatment for breast cancer? Has anyone felt unwell with early breast cancer?

I have no other symptoms which would indicate a common infection (no cold/flu symptoms, nothing), just hot and faint to a point of just needing to lie down all day.

Feeling like this is the beginning of the end.

Experiences of feeling unwell with breast cancer and of abnormal bloods prior to treatment welcome.

  • Hello MemyselfandI

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It's understandable that you're feeling worried and anxious ahead of your treatment starting and I think that many people will be able to identify with this.

It's important not to underestimate the impact that these kinds of stress levels can have on your body and the physical effects that you can feel as a result. The stress and anxiety that you're feeling could well be contributing to the dizziness and hot flashes that you're experiencing.

In terms of your abnormal blood results, do talk to your Consultant about this. Hopefully, they will be able to give you some reassurance that will help you feel more settled ahead of your treatment plan starting.

Hopefully some of the community members will post to share their words of advice and support soon but if you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you're getting on.

    Best wishes,
