Chris - diagnosed with CMML, what can I expect?

Just been diagnosed with cmml. Feel ok only know because of blood and bone marrow test. I am 72, exercise every day eat well. Now I feel I must prepare for my upcoming death. I may be wrong but my health deteriated a few days after my third covid vaccine shot in 2021 October. It was a Pfizer mRNA shot my first two were Astra Zeneca. Would appreciate any replies about what to expect

  • Hello Chris - a big welcome to Cancer Chat!

I am so sorry to hear about your CMML diagnosis. I am glad you feel OK though and it's good that you exercise every day and have a healthy diet. It's good that the blood and bone marrow test picked it up though so that you can hopefully have a treatment plan in place soon.

There is in-depth information on our website on chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia which will explain to you what CMML is. You can also read more about tests and treatment that are usually offered for CMML and I would also suggest you take a look at our page on coping with CMML. Leukaemia Care have some information about CMML as well.

Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 if you have any questions I am sure they will be able to advise you on what to expect following a CMML diagnosis - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I've done a little search on the forum and found other members of our community who have had a CMML diagnosis. [@Evie7]‍  posted this thread last year for example which may be of interest to you and don't hesitate to respond to it if you would like to connect with others who have the same diagnosis.  [@Strawberry99]‍ responded on that thread and was also feeling a bit lost at the time after being diagnosed - you will find this member's own thread on CMML here and don't hesitate to reply if you wish to do so. [@NickB53]‍ who mentioned being a similar age to you at the time of diagnosis also responded to Evie's thread and could be yet another person for you to get in touch with. You are not alone and I hope that you will hear from others here who have had the same diagnosis and may be a little further ahead in terms of treatment and that they will come and share their story with you.

Hopefully you will find out more soon about what your options are.

    Best wishes,
