30 week wait for dermatologist in Wales. Is that too long?

Hi Guys

I'm new to this forum. 52 year old male who has a BCC on the side of his face for the last 2 years. Never thought anything of it even though it disappeared and grew back again. Finally went to the GP and then had photos taken at my local hospital in Wales which were passed on to a dermatologist.

I've just been told they need to see me but the waiting list is 30 weeks. NHS England are currently quoting 18 weeks and looking back through this forum most people seem to be seen within 3 months.

Is 30 weeks too long? I am a little worried.

  • Hi Simon777,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear you have been told to expect quite a long wait for this. Every area and hospital is of course different - I'm sure if they felt that it was more urgent then they would have been able to make the appointment happen sooner for you. You can always let them know you would be available to go in sooner if there are any cancellations (if this would be an option for you). Otherwise, try to keep busy and take things a day at a time while you wait to help keep your mind off the worries.

If you feel you'd like to talk to someone in the meantime, you are welcome to give our nurses a call. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Thank you Ben. My only concern is they have based this decison on photos. I havent seen a specialist.
