Genetic Testing for Breast Cancer Gene

After sharing my news from surgery to clear margins, now I have the decision to make if I would like to go along the path of genetic testing. This obviously opens a can of worms with different paths to take if positive.
Has anyone got any experience of this? I definitely want to find out. I'm currently waiting to heal from surgery before my radiotherapy. I was told the process can take up to 6 months? Seems a long time?  Now my mind is wandering to preventative surgery, double mastectomy. I've had a large lumpectomy currently but have family history.

Goodness, anyone understand my thought process?

Many thanks xx

Undertaking genetic testing can open you up to a whole world of different thoughts and feelings and undoubtedly can leave you having to make decisions about possible risk-reducing options. It's natural that you will have some questions ahead of the process and it's a good idea to write these down so that when your appointment comes through you can discuss these with the genetic counsellor.

We do have some information on our website about genetic testing that you may find useful to have a look at.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm excluding bank holidays.

I hope that if you decide to go ahead with testing that the results bring you the information you need to allow you to move forwards.

    Best wishes
