Subtotal colonectomy , bowel cancer

Hi I have recently had a subtotal colectomy following a diagnosis for colon cancer it was a bigger op than they thought butter got all the tumours and that is obviously what matters however I am eternally grateful for this however getting increasingly frustrated with constant acute diarrhoea and  lopermide making little difference, it's 8 weeks so ce my surgery a d I'm feeling that I'm never going to able to lead a normal life due to needing the toilet constantly and being worn out. Has anyone e got any tips or similar experiences with this. Thank you so much.

  • Hello Jan-

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had surgery for colon cancer and that you're struggling with some bowel issues. It's understandable that you're feeling frustrated and tired by all this.

Hopefully some of our members who have experience with this surgery/problem will post to share their stories with you soon. You might also like to have a look at the Bowel Cancer UK forum which is a cancer-specific charity and where I'm sure you'll be able to connect with others who have advice and experiences they can share.

Do keep in touch with your clinical nurse specialist for advice and support on managing things as well Jan. Hopefully things will start to improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
