What's happens at first oncology appointment ?

Hi I know that everywhere my differ but I'm having what they call my first oncology appointment in the morning , obviously to discuss treatment , I have to fill out a form beforehand ,just with details , next of kin and that , address and phone number, the letter says chemo Vs CDK adjuvant.

I am estrogen receptive positive and prostrogen positive , HER2 borderline negative.

I tried emailing them to ask but no reply. Trying to work out timings too as it's not as simple as jumping in the car a d being dropped off, my son needs care , I need sleep and I'm in pain.

Just wondering if anybody knows if treatment starts straight away or week after etc or if they will give me time to prepare and get things in place. The lack of communication is appalling ,nothing but stress, fear and anxiety.

  • I'm sorry no-one has got back to you about this just yet Spiritlove.

Hopefully some of our members will pick up on your post soon but if you still have some time before your oncology appointment this morning, you're very welcome to give our team of cancer nurses a quick call about this on 0808 800 4040. They're very insightful and will do all they can to help.

I really do hope you're able to get some more information and peace of mind during your appointment Spiritlove and all goes well with your chemo when it begins.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Spiritlove,

I have only just come across your post.

I hope that you have a clearer view of your treatment plan after your discussion with Oncology. As I'm sure you have now discovered, treatment usually doesn't start immediately. Do you have someone who can look after your son, when you need to attend for your treatment? This must make things quite complicated for you.

This is a stressful enough time for you, without these additional worries. I hope that you discussed this with your Oncologist and that your care team can take this into account, in any future communication.

    Kind regards,
    Jolamine xx

  • Hey there,

At my first oncology appointment they explained what treatment I would need, I started chemo a few weeks later, you will need bloods 48hrs prior to chemo, on my first chemo appointment they gave me all my dates for future cycles so hopefully yrs will bee the same, my ist chemo app was longer than the rest will be...hopefully they will give you all yr dates so you can plan...my 2nd chemo is 5th May and they have said it will take 3-4 hours, timing all depends on if your having the cold cap,I chose not to...

Hope you get all the info you need

    Xxx

  • How did your first oncology appointment go?  Mine is next week (after diagnosis confirmed last week) and I'm wondering how much detail we will go through.
