Newly diagnosed -aged 35, terrified

Breast cancer- I’m 35 with a 3 year old and a 5month old. I recently discovered a lump in my left breast and went to my doctor to get it checked she was certain it was a blocked milk duct- it’s not. I got my biopsy results yesterday invasive ductal breast cancer stage 2/3 with spread to 3 lymph nodes. It’s her+. I still haven’t got around the fact I have cancer and I’m terrified as a young mum, I’m going to be starting chemo soon but I had a ct scan today and and mri next week. I’m am beyond stressed and worried, it was so much information to take in yesterday all different terms and possibilities. Can anyone share any advice/knowledge to help. I’m avoiding over researching on the net but thought this group of supportive women could help

update- my ct is clear no spread. Left breast and 3 lymph nodes (closest to my lump which is 5.7cm) so relieved. I'm taking this as a huge positive! Have mri next week

  • Hi there I am a week diagnosed, with very similar to u, two lumps and two lymph's! I don't know the kind of cancer as I didn't want to know I just wanted the treatment plan? Waiting to meet my consultant, mri etc! I too was terrifed and thought it was the end of the world but after being on this group and meeting with the specialist nurse and doctor I now realise that the disgusting disease is no longer a life sentence!  It's a horrible chapter of our life that we will look back on and say wow!! It's about keeping a positive mindset!? Knowing that this cancer does not define us, it's just something that's gonna be a bit ruff to get thru but we will do it! I googled lots first couple days, don't do that! I kept busy, u will too with the kids! I went to work after my results to keep busy!! I'm starting chemo soon and worried about hair loss etc as I'm one of the most veiniest, insecure people ever but know what it grows back!!

just keep strong, keep busy and talk to ur friends  and family!!  It's a time where we have to ask for help, be selfish and Lap the attention up! I had to get some diazepam from my doctor as my anxiety was so bad and that was a godsend as I finally slept!! But don't let this take over!!! Always here if u need to speak xz

  • Thank you so much for responding and your kind words. My consultant called today and luckily it's not spread past few lymph's and breast- just ready for treatment now! I wish you all the best for treatment, I haven't even thought about hair and stuff although someone suggest getting eyebrows micro bladed before chemo which I'm considering x

  • Hiya Lara thanks so much for responding. I'm so pleased your feeling  well I'm ready for my treatment

  • Ladies, I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I was diagnosed last summer with Grade 3 IDC, HER2 positive, 1 lymph node positive. I had 7 cycles of chemo, lumpectomy 4 weeks ago, and am waiting for radiotherapy to start in the next few weeks. But I am cancer-free due to chemo doing its job. Everyone is different, but I found chemo very tolerable with the worst side effect being that food tasted awful for a few days each cycle and only got back to near normal after I'd finished the 7 cycles. I lost pretty much all my hair (which didn't really bother me) and it started growing back about 8 weeks after the last cycle. I just wanted to reassure you that, as shell-shocked as you may be feeling right now, it will not last. You just find the strength and positivity to deal with it and focus on getting better. I wish you all the very best for what's to come and would be happy to chat over anything with you. I firmly believe that one of the main things that helped me cope was keeping active and eating healthily, which I did from the day after I was diagnosed (I had actually started a bit before then, but upped the anti after diagnosis). Take care, Amy xx

  • Hi

thabks so much for responding, it gives me so much hope hearing positive stories. I'm so pleased your fancy free. Can I ask out of curiosity why you are getting radiation to? The consultant did go through so much treatment options and plans I didn't take it all in so I'm not certain of my exact treatment other than chemo as a definite with potential surgery x

  • That's really good news from your consultant Boymamanci - all the best for your treatment and recovery xx

  •  Boymam

brilliant news you had today I'm so happy

Deffo consider the brows they make such a difference but you have to do them a few weeks before chemo starts . I had mine done in a rush and then didn't require chemo but I'm so glad I had them done

    good luck love Lara ️

  • Hi, to be honest I haven't asked and I'm happy to take any treatment recommended by my surgeon and oncologist. But I understand that RT is standard after lumpectomy to reduce the risk of recurrence, especially as I was node positive and my tumour was more than 2cm (it was 3.5cm). But I will make a point of asking my surgeon. I will be seeing her again next week as I had an infection in my wound and she has put me on antibiotics.

  • great thank you for the tip- I know I'll not be to have top up etc but even a little should help I think x
