Lymph Node Cancerous: starting Paclitaxel and carboplatin

Hi following rectal cancer in 2017 and recurrance in 2022 having panproctocolectomy with ileostomy in May 2022 a regular MRI in February followed by PET scan showed a cancerous lymph node in the groin.  I will be starting chemo for this soon - only 2 sessions, 3 weeks apart of both Paclitaxel and carboplatin..  I appreciate everyone is different but how long after treatment do most people feel better.  Also they've said I will lose my hair which they said in 2017 with radiotherapy and chemo tablets but I only lost a little round my hairline (and everything below the neck). Thoughts? Hints? Tips?  Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Evagar,

Welcome back to our forum although I am so sorry to hear you had a recurrence in 2022 and that there is a cancerous lymph node in your groin. I hope you won't mind but I have added a few words to your title so that it can be easily spotted by other members who may have had Paclitaxel and Carboplatin treatment before. I hope that you will hear from others here who have had similar treatment and that they will be able to tell you more about their personal experiences.

Don't hesitate to give our nurses a call too if there is anything you would like to talk through - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. Hair loss may vary from one person to another and our website has in-depth information on hair loss and cancer treatment which may of interest to you. I hope that you will also hear from our members' hair loss stories and that they will have good tips to share with you.

Best wishes and I hope your treatment goes well!
